This Agricultural Research Council (ARC) Internship opportunity is for recently qualified graduates who require working experience in line with their curriculum in order to obtain the necessary qualifications. The graduate will be paired with a mentor who will impart business knowledge, support, and further training on research capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to research and technical activities of multiple projects.
- Participates in planning and coordinating glasshouse, field and laboratory experiments.
- Carry out data collection, capturing, and basic analysis under supervision.
- Participates in the identification and development of new business opportunities.
- Participate in the successful transfer of scientific technology i.e. compilation of reports, oral and poster
presentations. - Pro-actively provide technical input within the context of the research project/s.
- Contribute to research by rendering desired support to research staff and optimise the utilisation of
resources allocated to projects. - Utilise and maintain facilities, apparatus and equipment.
- Comply to Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Internship Requirements:
- Knowledge of maintenance of equipment and infrastructure needed for research.
- Understanding of basic principles of research.
- Flexible and strong willingness to learn.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
Required Qualifications:
- A 3 year National Diploma in Agriculture/Biotechnology/Crop Production/Genetics/Plant Breeding/Plant Science/Molecular Biology or related fields.
Agricultural Research Council (ARC) Internship covers:
Financial support
- Monthly stipend; and
- Informal training (short courses).
Non-financial support
- Mentorship; and
- Working on projects that contribute to the improvement of the agricultural sector.

Competitive remuneration package will be congruent with the scope, responsibilities, and the stature of the position. The appointment will be subject to a positive security clearance and preference will be given to designated groups in terms of the ARC Employment Equity Plan. Permanent appointments are subject to six (6) months’ probation period.
