SAPS Internship Programme

If you are a graduate who is currently unemployed, you have the opportunity to apply for an internship programme called the SAPS Graduate Recruitment Scheme. This programme is offered by the South African Police Service (SAPS) as part of their strategies to develop human resources and skills in the country.

The internship programme lasts for 12 months and focuses on human resource management. There are different categories within the programme, and each category provides participants with a stipend determined by the Divisional Commissioner of Human Resource Development.

To qualify for this internship, there are some requirements that applicants must meet:

  • You must be a citizen of South Africa.
  • You should possess a National Senior Certificate or its equivalent (NCV Level 4).
  • There should be no pending criminal cases against you, and you should not have any previous convictions.
  • You must be unemployed and have never been employed in the field related to the advertised post.
  • You should not have participated in any other internship programmes in the relevant field before.
  • You need to be residing in the province where the post is being advertised.

Intern categories with minimum requirements:

Graduate Intern: Tertiary Qualification is required
Student Intern: Practical experience required by the Tertiary Institution for learners to finalise their
qualification (letter from the Institution not older than two (2) years must be attached)

To Apply for SAPS Internship Programme

  • Download the Graduate Recruitment Scheme Application form (Form at the end of this post)
  • Complete the form according to instructions.
  • Ensure you use a separate form for each post and write the correct reference numbers.
  • Attach your CV and Certified copies of your qualifications.
  • Submit your forms to the correct addresses indicated in the instructions for each province.

When applying, SAPS requests that applicants must not apply for more than 3 posts and each post must be applied for on a separate application form using each post reference number.

Please make sure to follow the instructions on the application form, as not doing so may result in your application being rejected. You must also attach the post details and reference number to the form, so that officials know exactly what you are applying for.

When you submit your application form, make sure that any certified documents attached are no older than 3 months. Please note that applications sent through fax or email will not be considered.

Late applications will not be accepted, so it is important to submit your application on time.

If you are selected as a potential candidate, you will be contacted for fingerprint screening and security clearance. You will also be expected to attend a personal interview.

Only candidates who are shortlisted will receive a notification. If you have not been contacted within two months of the closing date, unfortunately, your application was unsuccessful.

Successful candidates will need to sign a 12-month contract to show their acceptance of the position. Interns should remember that this program does not guarantee automatic permanent employment after completion.
